Lodsted Help

Glossary

The words Lodsted uses, in alphabetical order.

Active (location, product, user)
Switched on, usable. An inactive location is not usable: its stock is not counted as available, not allocated to waves, not offered for replenishment, and shows under Unavail on the Inventory page. An inactive product is shown struck through. An inactive user cannot sign in.
Allocated
Stock reserved for an active or printed wave. Available = On hand − Allocated. Allocation happens when a wave is created and is released when the wave ships, completes or is reset.
Auto-move
A list of stock to carry from storage locations to pick locations (zone 01). Created automatically with a wave when pick bins are short, or by hand from the Replenishment page (named RM…). Stock moves in the system when the auto-move is created; the printed report tells people what to move physically.
Available
On hand minus allocated, counted only at active locations. What waves can use and what is reported to Shopify (less open demand).
Backordered
An order that cannot ship because at least one line has less available stock than ordered. Computed, not a status: the order stays Downloaded. The Inventory page also shows a backordered quantity per SKU.
Bin (cart bin)
A numbered slot on the pick cart. Each order in a wave gets one bin. How many bins a wave has is the cart size on its wave definition (up to 250). Not to be confused with the bin part of a location code.
Box preset
A named box with length, width and height, used at the pack station so the packer does not type dimensions. Each preset belongs to a ship type.
Bulk
Any active location outside zone 01: storage for overstock. Waves draw from bulk only after pick locations; replenishment moves stock from bulk to pick.
Carrier account
A USPS or UPS postage account inside your Stamps.com account, entered under Settings. Lodsted buys Endicia labels through it.
Cost layer (FIFO layer)
Each receipt creates its own inventory row with its own cost and received date. When stock leaves, the oldest layer at that location is consumed first, so cost of goods is first-in, first-out.
Demand
Units on open orders (Downloaded, In Wave, Printed) for a SKU. Shown on the Inventory page and subtracted from the count pushed to Shopify.
Downloaded
The first order status: pulled from the store, not yet on a wave.
Fulfillment
Shopify's record that an order has shipped, with tracking. Lodsted creates it when it processes a shipment.
Group qty (GRP)
The inner-pack quantity of a product, the multiple stock is moved in. Auto-moves and replenishment round up to it.
Hazmat
A product flag. Marks the packing slip and, for USPS labels, adds the hazardous-materials handling to the label.
Kit
A Shopify SKU that is really several component SKUs shipped together. Lodsted expands a kit line into its components when the order arrives; components are picked and stock is kept per component.
Location
A place stock can sit, identified by a code of letters and digits whose first two characters are the zone, for example 01A01 or 02-01-0304.
Master carton (MCQ)
The case quantity of a product. Auto-moves try to move whole master cartons when the pick location has room.
Max, Min
On a location. Max is how many units the bin holds; replenishment fills to it. Min is the warning level; a pick location at or below Min is highlighted red on the Replenishment page.
Non-shippable
A product that is never picked or shipped: digital goods, services, gift cards, fees. Follows the "physical product" box on the product in Shopify and is re-set on every product sync. Ignored by allocation, pick lists, stock deduction and the Shopify stock push.
On hand
Physical units at a location, including any that are allocated.
Order id and order number
The order number is Shopify's (#1042). The order id is Lodsted's internal number, used in shipment ids and barcodes. Search accepts either.
Packing slip
One page per order (more if over 25 lines) printed with the wave, sorted by bin, with the pick location of each line and a return form on the last page.
Pick list
The first part of the wave printout: every location to visit, in order, with the quantity and the bins to put it in.
Primary location
The one zone 01 location that is a SKU's home. Waves pick from it first; replenishment refills it; receiving can be sent to it with one click. A SKU has at most one primary.
Printed
Order status once its wave has been printed. Also the tag Lodsted adds to the order in Shopify.
Processing (shipments)
Turning a shipment record into stock deductions, a Shipped order and a store fulfillment. Runs during sync and from the Process Shipments button.
Purchase order (PO)
What you expect from a vendor: lines of SKU, quantity and cost. Receiving against it creates stock at cost.
Replenishment
Refilling pick locations from bulk. The Replenishment page is the report; generating from it creates an auto-move.
SCAN form (USPS manifest)
A single barcode the USPS driver scans to accept a whole day's packages. Lodsted makes one per ship type from the pack station.
Ship type
How a box leaves the building: Parcel, Pallet, Gaylord. Groups labels onto separate SCAN forms. Each box preset has one.
Shipment id
{order id} or {order id}-{shipment number}, for example 12891-1. Printed as the barcode on the packing slip; scanned at the pack station.
Split order
An order tagged split, allowed to ship in more than one shipment across more than one wave.
Sync
The run that pulls new orders and refunds from the store, processes shipments and pushes fulfillments, then pushes stock counts. Runs on a schedule and from the Sync button.
Transaction (inventory)
One line of the stock audit trail: Received, Moved, Auto-moved, Adjusted, Sale, with SKU, locations, quantity, cost, user, time and notes.
Wave
A batch of orders picked together. Has a number (W317), a type (its definition's name), a size (the definition's cart size, in bins) and a status: Active, Printed, Completed or Cancelled.
Wave definition
A named rule that decides which orders a wave type takes, with a priority order among definitions and a cart size (the number of bins on every wave of that type, up to 250). Built with the rule builder or written as SQL.
Zone
The first part of a location code. 01 is picking; every other value is storage, grouped however you like. Anything other than 01 is treated as bulk for allocation purposes.
